    A lifelong hunter, sportsman and national leader on Second Amendment issues in Congress, Richard knows the Second Amendment is America’s First Freedom. Richard vigorously defends the rights of all law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms and was honored to previously be the only Congressman invited to address the NRA with President Donald Trump.

    Richard has successfully defended against efforts to ban green tip ammunition, overreaching gun control bills, and led the U.S. House to pass what was called “the biggest guns rights boost since the ratification of the Second Amendment” – his Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. Richard continues to fight to expand concealed carry reciprocity and ensure law-abiding concealed carry permit holders do not become criminals when crossing an invisible state line.

    Additionally, Richard has led efforts to push back against stabilizing brace regulations from the ATF that would turn millions of law-abiding citizens, including disabled combat veterans, into felons overnight.

    Richard knows that our God-given rights ensure that Americans can own firearms for hunting, shooting sports, self-defense or any other lawful purpose. That’s why we can count on him to continue to be the Second Amendment champion in the halls of Congress.

  • Bureaucracy holding business back

    U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, whose 8th District includes Robeson and Scotland counties, on Monday toured Cape Fear Arsenal in Lumberton as part of a four-business tour he will make this week of manufacturing companies in his district.

    “I’m excited about the potential for this business to succeed and grow in Robeson County,” Hudson said. “I think the market is right at this time for this product.”

    Located in a 72,000-square-foot building on Starlite Drive, the new business produces ammunition components and high quality projectiles. When operating at full capacity, 175 million rounds of ammunition will be produced each year. Within five years, the company is expected to employ about 204 workers.

    Hudson said that more businesses like Cape Fear Arsenal would be successful if the federal tax code was changed to make American companies more competitive.

    “We have to come up with new regulations for businesses that make sense,” he said. “There is no reason we can’t bring manufacturing back.”

    Hudson’s “jobs plan” calls for less government regulations, less taxation, and less spending. The Hudson-sponsored SKILLS Act, which passed the House last March, includes modifications to workforce development programs that Hudson says will lend more high-tech skills to workers.

    Hudson, the only Republican from North Carolina on the House Agriculture Committee, has introduced the “Farmers Against Crippling Taxes Act” to repeal the federal tax that family farms pay upon the death of a benefactor.

    On Wednesday Hudson will visit Thermal Control Products in Concord, and Tyco in Monroe. At each stop he plans to discuss manufacturing and the growth of local economies.

    Hudson, considered one of the most conservative members of Congress, has filed for his second two-year term.

  • A strong national defense has never been more critical

    Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

    This week I voted with 339 of my colleagues in the House to pass the Department of Defense funding bill, an important piece of legislation that pays our men and women in uniform, provides them with the best equipment available and ensures our nation is prepared should we be required to fight future conflicts around the world

    At $598.8 billion this bill represents a vast amount of money. In tough economic times it is even more important that we hold every federal agency accountable for taxpayer dollars. That is why I have publicly called for a full-scale audit of the Department of Defense in order to ensure the American people’s hard-earned tax dollars are being spent responsibly. It is no secret that there is plenty of waste, fraud and abuse throughout the federal government. This certainly applies to the Pentagon as well, and rooting out these inefficiencies helps ensure our military is the strongest in the world.

    While we must hold this agency accountable, I do not believe our military should bear the brunt of funding cuts. Our service members operate in every climate and time zone imaginable, both afloat, in the air and on shore; we must continue to provide them with the support they need to keep themselves and our nation safe. As recent events in Ukraine and Iraq demonstrate, uncertainty abounds around the world today more than ever.

    A strong national defense helps to balance against threats exactly like those we face in Iraq. Recent events, and the fact that the number of terrorist attacks by al Qaeda and its affiliates have increased from around 100 in 2007 to more than 900 in 2013, counters the notion that terrorist groups are in decline. It is tragic to see the gains made by the sacrifice of so many American service men and women be squandered. A failure to lead calls into question our commitment to being a force for peace in the region. I hope the president will work with Congress and our allies on short-term solutions to stem the expansion of ISIS immediately but will also look at ways to engage and expand the role of the Iraqi government and security forces in combating long term threats.

    I continue to be particularly concerned with the large number of westerners who are engaged in combat in Syria and Iraq and the effect their return has around the globe. With estimates of more 3,000 westerners engaged in the conflicts in Syria and Iraq, the outcome has implications not only on United States interests abroad, but our safety right here at home. The potential return of battle-trained and hardened terrorists is a threat that is difficult to detect, track and prevent should we fail to stop them overseas. Engaging with our allies in the region and around the world now to prevent the creation of a new safe haven and stem the growth of terrorism must be a top priority for American leadership in the coming days. This week’s vote provides our nation with the tools that we need, and I was proud to support it.

He is committed to conservative, pro-business principles that will help create jobs: cutting taxes, reducing excessive regulations, and fully funding worker retraining programs at our community colleges. Richard rolls up his sleeves, works hard and remains focused on his goal of every worker having an opportunity at a good job.

    Through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, we grew the economy, put more money in middle class Americans’ pockets, and raised wages. Richard believes we must build on that progress to shrink government and grow our economy once again.

    As a dad, Richard is 100% Pro-Life and fights for legislation which protects life from conception until natural death. He knows that life is a precious gift from God and should be protected at all stages. Richard defends the ban on partial birth abortions and fights against any legislation which seeks to legalize euthanasia. He has championed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Actand fought to keep longstanding Hyde Amendment protections that prohibit tax dollars from funding abortions. Richard will stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves and proactively defend life.
